So, I downloaded the Zune 1.3 upgrade, but it just refuses to instal the firmware. I've tried from my desktop, my laptop, rebooted those, restarted the Zune, etc. Just won't apply and get nothing but a useless error message:

It is not possible to change sync settings at this time. Try again later.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit with latest drivers and all that jazz. Wish I could at least get some error info that would be useful to debugging the problem. *sigh*

UPDATE 3/31:

I tried running Zune as admin and then updating the firmware. Sure enough, that worked. Guess even Microsoft needs to learn how to get their software to work with UAC. Also sad is, how the heck was this not a tested scenario?

Ya know, the other day before I left for the airport I downloaded a bunch of videos from Channel9 and synch'd them to my zune so I could watch them on my flight out to the MVP Summit. The night before, I had just watched a movie I downloaded from XBox Live Marketplace. As the files were synch'ing I wondered, since Microsoft already has access to all this great content for XBL, why the heck don't they provide that content through the Zune Marketplace? I totally would have downloaded a movie, or maybe a couple of my favorite UFC fights, or maybe some of my favorite Frisky Dingo episodes... whatever. They're a lot more useful to me on my Zune which I can whip out wherever I am than on my 360. So, how about it Microsoft?

Well I'm out on the left coast, Seattle to be specific, for yet another MVP Summit. These summits are always a great time. They tend to bring out more of the alpha geeks than a PDC does simply because of the nature of the MVP crowd. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure this whole thing's under NDA though, so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to share via the blog.
